ARTICLES: USE OF A,AN AND THE
Article 'the' defines a noun specific or unspecific.
It also Limits the noun to one particular thing. The definite
article can be used with singular , plural or uncountable noun.
Example: I want to swim over the water.
In Conversation:
If you want a particular thing, use THE article.
If the object is single in the world, use THE article.
Use of The:
1.Before the unique Object.
Exa: the sun. the moon.
2. Before the name of Newspaper
Exa: the Indian Express, The lokmat.
3. Before the superlative adjective.
Exa: the greatest, the largest, the most.
4. To indicate a specific noun.
I saw the monkey in Zoo. (a specific monkey)
Use of The:

Indefinite Article: ‘A’ and ‘AN’
The indefinite article indicates that a noun refers to a
general idea rather than particular idea.
Examples:
1. I saw a boy.
2. Give me a pen.

3. we use an umbrella in rainy days.
If word begins with vowel sound use A.
Examples:
1.I HAD A BANANA FOR A LUNCH
2.MAHESH IS A TEACHER.
3.SUNDAY IS A HOLIDAY.
4.SONU NIGAM IS A SINGER.
5.2020 IS A SPECIAL YEAR FOR EVERYONE.
If word begins with consonant sound use AN.
Examples:
1.EATING AN APPLE A DAY IS A GOOD FOR HEALTH.
2.I HAD AN EGGS FOR BREAKFAST.
3.I AM AN INDIAN.
4.ATHLETICS IS AN OLYMPIC GAME.
5. CHESS IS AN INTERESTING GAME.
6. CALLING HIM A MONKEY IS AN INSULT.
Use of article A or AN is depend on the starting sound of the word. If it is vowel sound use A and if it is consonant sound use AN.
Examples:
1.HE IS AN HONEST PERSON.
Explanation: word 'Honest' starts with vowel 'H' but here pronunciation of H is silent. Pronunciation of the words like honest. hour, etc. starts with consonant sound.(Honest = आनेस्ट Hour =अवर ).
Some words like university, united, European,etc start
with consonant but the sound of the word starts with consonant so in such cases A article must be used.
Examples:
1. He is a university student.
Explanation: In such cases though word starts with consonant but the pronunciation has vowel sound. (University= युनिव्हर्सिटी yoo)
2.For a European, christmas is a large celebration.
3. He is a united kingdom citizen.
Article before an Adjective:
Sometimes an article modifies a noun that is also modified
by an adjective. Word order of the sentence should ,
Article + Adjective + Noun.
Exa:
1. It is a beautiful garden.
2.. He is the strongest man ever.
(Always Remember:Indefinite article is only for singular noun.)

Incorrect: Please
give me a water.
Correct: Please give me some water.
Correct: Please give me a bottle of water.
Incorrect: Allow me to take a sand.
Correct: Allow me to
take a trolley of sand.
Note that depending on the context some noun can be
countable or uncountable.
Example: 1. This room needs a light.
2.Focus a light toward me.
We can not use article with possessive pronoun.
Incorrect: Why are
you playing with the my bat?
Correct: Why are you
playing with my bat?
Correct: Why are you
playing with the bat?
OMISSION OF ARTICLES:
Some words does not posses any article. Use of Article for such word is irrelevant.
Articles are not applicable before the:
1.Name of Countries,Continents, Person and Month.
2. Name of Language
3.Abstract noun
4.Name of Metals
5. Common Noun
6. Name of Games.
7. Name of Festivals
